Full Professorship (W3) of Animal Systems Genomics (Chair)

The Department of Veterinary Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for a

Full Professorship (W3) of Animal Systems Genomics (Chair)

commencing as soon as possible.

The applicant should be an internationally recognized scientist who employs cutting edge methods to make substantial contributions to animal systems genomics. The applicant’s research activity should be of relevance to veterinary medicine and focus on at least one of the following:

  • deep learning-based characterization of adaptability and efficiency;
  • learning and predictions from the past (paleogenomics) for the future (sustainability);
  • predictions based on "population OMICs" for personalized veterinary medicine;
  • prediction of essential fitness components for future environmental and production conditions;
  • analysis of natural resistance mechanisms;
  • analysis of host-pathogen interactions with viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites that allow a pathogen to overcome the species barrier and to develop into a zoonosis.

Prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification, teaching skills at university level, excellent academic achievements and a productive and promising research program that comprises basic as well as applied research. An excellent international network, as well as experience in acquiring national and international third-party funding are mandatory requirements. We expect intensive cooperation with the relevant scientific institutions within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Munich research community to foster a strong One Health focus in research and teaching.

According to domestic legal guidelines for the approbation of veterinarians (TAppV) the successful applicant will be responsible for teaching veterinary students in genetics, general and special animal breeding in accordance with the requirements of the TAppV to strengthen the competence of future veterinarians in Veterinary Public Health.
