About us:

The chair is devoted to research and teaching of philosophy in late antiquity and in the Islamic world, and currently hosts a DFG funded research project that will pursue a comprehensive, and historically contextualized study of the philosophy of the Baghdad School.

We are looking for you:

Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/x)

in Munich

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Research within the DFG sponsored research group “The Philosophy of the Baghdad School,” which will be producing a joint monograph and sourcebook of translations dedicated to the group of philosophers who wrote works of Aristotelian philosophy and science, as well as Christian theology, in Baghdad in the 9-11th centuries CE.
  • Participation in further activities of the research group.

Your qualifications:

Prerequisites are an excellent university degree and completed, or almost completed, doctoral degree in Philosophy or other related field, as well as expertise in the area of the research project. A further requirement is excellent reading skills in classical Arabic, native or near-native facility in English, the capacity for creativity and teamwork, result-oriented work and a willingness to meet new challenges.

Salary will be calculated according to group E 13 TV-L. The position will end on 30.09.2026. We particularly welcome applications from female candidates. The University intends to enhance the diversity of its faculty members.
