About us:

Welcome to the Chair for Experimental Parasitology at LMU Munich! Our department is at the forefront of research on protozoan parasites, including Toxoplasma gondii, Plasmodium falciparum, and Trypanosoma brucei. We explore the unique biology of these fascinating organisms, which possess distinct evolutionary histories and biological pathways that set them apart from other eukaryotes.

Our research aims to uncover the similarities and differences between protozoan parasites and their hosts, which not only provides critical insights into fundamental biological processes but also holds the potential for developing novel therapeutic strategies.

At our Chair, you'll be part of a dynamic and interdisciplinary team, collaborating on cutting-edge research in parasitology and benefiting from the resources and expertise of LMU Munich.

We are looking for you:

Postdoctoral researcher (m/f/x)

in Planegg

Your tasks and responsibilities:

You will have the opportunity to work with Toxoplasma gondii and Plasmodium falciparum, addressing key questions in parasitology. Your tasks will include:

  • Conducting experiments: Perform lab-based experiments to investigate parasite biology, focusing on key processes such as motility, cell cycle progression, and host-pathogen interactions
  • Generating and analyzing data: Work with a variety of experimental techniques including molecular biology, microscopy, and protein analysis to generate data that will inform future research directions
  • Collaborating with a dynamic team: Work closely with other researchers, including PhD students, postdocs, and faculty members, to ensure the success of collaborative projects
  • Contributing to publications: Assist in writing and preparing research findings for publication in high-impact journals, contributing to the scientific community's understanding of protozoan parasites
  • Supporting ongoing projects: Contribute to various research projects in Toxoplasma gondii and Plasmodium falciparum, gaining experience in both independent and collaborative research environments
  • Securing additional funding: As the position is supported for one year, you will be expected to apply for additional funding to continue your research beyond the initial period

You will be a key member of our team, directly contributing to innovative and impactful research aimed at developing new strategies to combat parasitic diseases, with the opportunity to build your own independent research career.

Your qualifications:

  • Qualifications: You hold a PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field. A strong interest in molecular parasitology and biochemical research approaches is advantageous.
  • Work Experience: You have extensive experience in cell culturing and molecular and cell biology techniques. Experience with in vitro activity assays, immunoprecipitations, and Western blotting is highly desirable. Experience working with Toxoplasma gondii Plasmodium falciparum or other protozoan parasite genera is a plus
  • Skills: You have solid knowledge of molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, cloning, protein expression and purification. Experience with quantitative proteomics and mass spectrometry is appreciated but not mandatory
  • Soft Skills: You demonstrate excellent teamwork and communication skills, along with the ability to independently coordinate projects. A quick learner and the willingness to familiarize yourself with new technologies are essential. You are able to present your results clearly and concisely in English.

Benefits:

We offer you the opportunity to join a dynamic and interdisciplinary research team lead by Prof. Meissner and Dr. Jimenez-Ruiz at the Chair for Experimental Parasitology at LMU Munich. The position is classified as a postdoctoral researcher within the state collective agreement (TV-L E13), with an annual gross salary ranging from €57,000 to €65,000, depending on qualifications and experience. The position is initially limited to one year, with the possibility of extension contingent upon successful acquisition of additional funding.

The position is full-time (40 hours per week), with flexible working hours and the option for home office arrangements.

Additional Benefits:

  • Work-life balance: 30 working days of vacation per year.
  • Childcare support: Access to holiday and emergency childcare and family-friendly LMU services available via the Office for Equality and Inclusion.
