About us:

The Ph.D. position will be available from February 2025 at the Max von Pettenkofer Institute (Munich city center), within the framework of the graduate program: Infection Research on Human Pathogens@MvPI. The Max von Pettenkofer Institute (MvPI) is part of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

In your PhD, you will contribute to a project on protein-protein interactions in infections, or concerning the development of novel antibacterial strategies in the context of bacterial gene regulation. We focus on gastrointestinal infections, such as Helicobacter pylori, Escherichia coli and _Campylobacter jejun_i. The project will be conducted in the lab of Prof. Dr. Christine Josenhans (main mentor), jointly mentored by a Thesis Advisory Committee. Prior experiences in protein biochemistry (protein expression, purification and characterization, Protein structural analysis), glycans and nucleic acids, or microbiology, molecular biology, genomics and genetics will be beneficial for successfully conducting the project. Expertise in microbiology and hostpathogen interaction will also be considered a plus.

Your qualifications:

We are seeking you, a highly motivated individual with high interest in scientific work, who would like to perform your Ph.D. in an interdisciplinary and international environment. We anticipate you to be an applicant with an excellent previous scientific training, very good communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team as well as self-motivated. Feel addressed if you apply with a (soon-to-be) completed undergraduate degree (Master or equivalent) in human biology, immunology, microbiology, biochemistry, the life sciences, or natural sciences.
