About us:

The Unterweger lab has a strong interest in the bacterial type VI secretion system and bacteria-bacteria interactions in microbial communities. We are joining the Faculty of Biology at the LMU in Fall 2025 and will be located at the Biocenter. This PhD project is funded by a Germany-wide network on illuminating gene functions of the human intestinal microbiota. The focus of the project will be on genes that encode bacterial toxins for microbe-microbe interactions. There will be ample of opportunities to connect with other groups locally and nationally.

We are looking for you:

PhD Student in Bacteriology/Molecular Microbiome Science (m/f/x)

in Planegg-Martinsried

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Research on the type VI secretion system of the Bacteroidota in the mammalian intestine
  • Presentation and publication of the project
  • Active role as a member of the research group
  • Close collaboration with our project partner
  • Participation in activities of the research consortium.

Your qualifications:

You are fascinated by microbiology and have a strong desire to learn and grow professionally. You have a Master’s degree in the biosciences or are close to completing such a degree. You are experienced with techniques in at least one of the areas of molecular microbiology, microbiome research, computational biology, and protein biochemistry. You thrive in a team and your writing and communication skills in English are excellent.
