Junior Professorship (W1) (for a period of 3 years) of Artificial Intelligence in the Arts and Arts Studies

We are looking for someone with a strong academic background in art studies, as well as proven methodological and technical knowledge in the field of AI. Candidates should have a background in art history, media, music or theatre studies, with a focus on digital methods and AI. Alternatively, they should possess a computer science or digital humanities background, with an art or cultural studies orientation. We are looking for an interdisciplinary profile that combines technical expertise with reflection on art. This can be demonstrated through relevant publications in international journals, the successful acquisition of third-party funding, and involvement in relevant projects. Practical experience in interdisciplinary research and teaching at the intersection of AI technologies and art studies is also required. Experience in developing digital methods or tools for accessing, analysing or communicating artistic content would be advantageous. The successful candidate will be able to draw on existing structures within the Department of Arts and at LMU Munich and will be expected to build bridges between humanities theory and technical approaches to AI, thereby contributing to the development of AI and digital humanities in research and teaching. We welcome cooperation with national and international research institutions, as well as participation in the development of new research initiatives within the Department of Arts.
