Scientific Assistant (Wissenschaftlicher Assistent/Akademischer Rat auf Zeit) (m/f/x)

Your tasks and responsibilities:

The successful candidate will develop their own research projects, and are expected to acquire third-party funding, to complement the thematic focus of the working group: temporal and spatial aspects of evolution, diversification, biomineralization, and adaptation to climate change of geobiologically important marine invertebrates, such as sponges, corals, echinoderms, and their symbionts. They will also support the Chair of Paleontology & Geobiology in research and teaching, and are required to teach courses in the subject areas of paleontology/geobiology in the Bachelor's degree program in Earth Sciences and in the International Master's degree program “Geobiology & Paleobiology” for five h/week during the semester. A collaboration in academic self-administration is also expected

Your qualifications:

The successful candidate is expected to hold a Ph.D. in Earth-, Biological-, or related sciences no longer than approximately four years ago with demonstrated experience in excellent research addressing questions of broad relevance. At least one-two years postdoctoral experience, preferably abroad, is beneficial. Competencies in next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics and/or scientific programming (e.g. in R, Python etc.) are a bonus. You are committed, independent, and reliable, and you have very good written and spoken English communication skills. Bachelor-level teaching will largely be in German, so a successful non-native candidate will be willing to acquire German language skills sufficient for teaching within the first 24 months.

Benefits:

This position is non-tenured and can initially be held for up to six years. On successful completion of a “habilitation” (a qualification for a teaching career in higher education) a prolongation for a further four years is possible. Remuneration will be at the German public servant level A13 (Akademischer Rat auf Zeit).
