About us:

We are a relatively recently established team dedicated to research and teaching on social inequality (with a particular interest in wealth inequality), social mobility, cross-national comparisons, quantitative methods, and real utopias. Our dynamic and equitable community will also benefit from the Munich International Stone Center for Inequality Research (ISI), which the chair, Prof. Dr. Fabian Pfeffer, directs and which will also provide ample opportunities for international exchange.

We are looking for you:

Post-doctoral Researcher (m/f/x)

in Munich

Your tasks and responsibilities:

• Pursue an active research agenda on social inequality and its dynamics that will allow you to further your own academic career
• Teach 5 SWS (~ 2-3 courses) per semester in the study program of the department. The courses will contribute to the teaching portfolio of the Chair on Social Inequality and Social Structures (Prof. Pfeffer)
• Support of the management of the chair duties and supervision of students

Your qualifications:

• Completed university degree (Master)
• Completed PhD in sociology (or to be completed before April 2025)
• Excitement for foundational research on social inequality and its dynamics across time, generations, or contexts, as demonstrated by an active research and teaching record. A beginning research agenda on or interest in wealth, housing inequality, or taxation is beneficial (but not required)
• Expertise in handling and analyzing large, quantitative data (such as, complex survey data, administrative data, or process-generated data)
• Expertise in the application of advanced quantitative methods and demonstrated data analytic skills in Stata and/or R
• High proficiency in English (speaking and writing); proficiency in German is not a requirement
