Your tasks and responsibilities:

The successful applicant will participate in the postgraduate program “Infection Research on Human Pathogens@MVPI”. The doctoral research project will be performed in the group of Prof. Dr. Sebastian Suerbaum and address questions related to the genomic and epigenomics adaptation of the carcinogenic bacterial stomach pathogen Helicobacter pylori to its individual human host, using a combination of State of the Art genomic analysis with diverse molecular experimental approaches.

Your qualifications:

  • We are seeking a highly motivated young researcher, who would like to perform a Ph.D. thesis in an interdisciplinary and international environment. We anticipate applicants with an excellent previous scientific training, very good communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. We offer an excellent research environment, access to a wide variety of techniques, and the possibility to participate in the structured graduate program of MvPI and LMU, including focused lectures, seminars, and skills courses.
  • Applicants with a completed undergraduate degree (Master or equivalent) in the life sciences, biomedical or natural sciences will be considered.
  • Experience in microbiology, ideally human pathogens, molecular biology/biochemical methods and bioinformatics skills will all be beneficial for successfully conducting the project, but can also be acquired as part of the PhD project.
