About us:

The Unterweger lab has a strong interest in the bacterial type VI secretion system, which mediates microbe-microbe and microbe-host interactions. We are joining the Faculty of Biology at the LMU in Fall 2025 and will be located at the Biocenter. We are part of a Germany-wide network of research groups in infection biology. This PhD project will focus on the species Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the adaptive immune response to the bacterial secretion systems.

PhD Student in Bacteriology/Infection biology (m/f/x)

in Planegg-Martinsried

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Research on the type VI secretion systems of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the adaptive immune response
  • Presentation and publication of the project
  • Active role as a member of the research group
  • Close collaboration with our project partners
  • Participation in annual networking events of the funding body.

Your qualifications:

You are fascinated by microbiology and have a strong desire to learn and grow professionally. You have a Master’s degree in the biosciences or are close to completing such a degree. You are experienced with techniques in at least one of the areas of molecular bacteriology, infection biology, immunology, computational biology, and protein biochemistry. You thrive in a team and your writing and communication skills in English are excellent.
