As one of Europe’s leading research universities, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich is committed to the highest international standards of excellence in research and teaching. Building on its more than 500-year-long tradition, it offers a broad spectrum that covers all areas of knowledge within its 18 Faculties, ranging from the humanities, law, economics and social sciences, to medicine and the natural sciences.
The Faculty of Medicine, Biomedical Center (BMC), Adolf Butenandt Institute of Physiological Chemistry, Physical Biochemistry and Cell Biology invites applications for a
Full Professorship (W3)
of Molecular Biology
(Chair)
commencing on January 1, 2026.
The research groups of the Chair investigate various aspects of chromatin-mediated epigenetic regulation of gene activity and genome stability through a reliable DNA damage response. The person to be appointed will strengthen the local network of chromatin biology. In this context, references to the focus topic 'Plasticity and Resilience' are desired. Here, the interactions of the eukaryotic genome and its chromatin organisation with a changing environment in the broadest sense (tissue, organism, outside world) will be investigated. Research at the Chair will investigate fundamental mechanisms of chromatin-mediated regulation, whereby clinical references and co-operation with clinical working groups are desired.
The Chair of Molecular Biology makes important contributions to the organisation and development of the Biomedical Centre (BMC), e.g. by organising the Core Facilities Bioinformatics and Proteomics. Close cooperation with the other working groups of the BMC and the Faculty of Medicine is therefore expected.
The person sought will represent the subject of biochemistry/molecular biology in its entirety in teaching for the medicine and dentistry degree programs.
Prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification, teaching skills at university level, excellent academic achievements and a productive and promising research program.
