About us:

The Institute for Immunology is part of the Biomedical Center (BMC) of the LMU Faculty of Medicine. Research in the Krug lab is dedicated to elucidating developmental and functional diversity of dendritic cell (DC) subpopulations in the context of viral infection and vaccination. We use yellow fever vaccination (YF17D) as a model of a highly efficient and long-lasting immune response in humans and want to understand how this response is initiated as a blueprint for development of effective anti-viral vaccines. We aim to define the early response to the vaccine virus in a human skin model and in mice. We ask which skin-resident cells at the injection site in the skin are infected and propagate the virus in context with the local type I IFN response and how dendritic cells get activated and present the viral antigens to T cells to promote optimal T cell differentiation.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

• Design and perform experiments to study biological function of dendritic cells using in vitro and in vivo models
• Employ high-dimensional flow cytometry and multiplex immunofluorescence including computational analysis and data integration
• Keep up to date with project-related literature and contribute ideas to develop the research project
• Communicate and collaborate across disciplines and professional groups
• Actively participate in meetings, seminars and conferences
• Contribute to writing research manuscripts and reports

Your qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Immunology, Molecular Medicine or related natural science disciplines
• Scientific background in Immunology and enthusiasm for innate immunity and dendritic cells
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fluency in English (spoken and written)
• Organizational and team skills, flexibility, curiosity, responsible work ethics
• Experience in cellular biology, molecular biology and immunology techniques desirable
• Experience with multiparameter flow cytometry and/or multiparameter microscopy desirable
• Basic bioinformatics skills (R, Python) desirable
