The Population Genomics Group, the Palaeogenomics Group and the Palaeoanatomy and Domestication Group, led by Prof. Ivica Medugorac, Prof. Laurent Frantz and Prof. Joris Peters, are part of the Veterinary Science Department of the LMU Munich's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The three groups have a broad interest in the neutral and functional genetic diversity of companion animals and their wild relatives, as well as in evolutionary genomics, archaeology, conservation biology and sustainable agriculture. We exploit the power of ancient and modern genomics to contrast current patterns of genetic diversity to those in the past. This allows us to track evolutionary processes such as artificial selection, extinction, speciation and domestication over time, providing knowledge that informs archaeological studies, modern breeding practices, conservation efforts and sustainable development.
We are looking for you:
in Martinsried/Planegg
We are looking for a postdoc to analyse (paleo)genomic data from domestic animals. The work will be based in the Population Genomics group (headed by Prof. Medugorac). Our groups have generated extensive genomic datasets for several domestic animal species, but the future post holder will primarily work with the genomics of ruminants. Our groups have generated extensive genomic datasets for several domestic animal species, but the future post holder will primarily work with the genomics of ruminants. You will also receive support in implementing your own research ideas and in applying for funding. The work will be largely computer-based, but the successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in data generation in our ancient and modern DNA laboratories. The postdoc will be part of a larger team consisting of several postdocs and PhD students who are investigating the evolutionary history of domestic animals using (paleo) genomic and zooarchaeological methods.
