Professorship (W2) (6 years/tenure track) of Equine Surgery

The Equine Clinic, a unit of the Center of Clinical Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for a Professorship (W2) (6 years/tenure track) of Equine Surgery commencing as soon as possible.

The successful applicant will be responsible for all aspects within the field of equine surgery. The applicant’s activities are expected to extend into teaching, research and administration as well as clinical services. The newly constructed clinic on the Campus in Oberschleißheim is a state-of-the-art facility that is ideally suited to develop a successful equine surgery program.

LMU Munich seeks to appoint a clinically skilled, highly qualified junior academic to this professorship and, therefore, especially encourages early-career scholars to apply. Prerequisites for this position are a university degree in veterinary medicine and a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification. With an excellent record in research and teaching to date, prospective candidates will have demonstrated the potential for an outstanding academic career.

Experience in raising third party resources is expected. Excellent team and communication skills, as well as the willingness to play a leading role in the future development of the "Equine Surgery" unit in the new clinic on the Campus in Oberschleißheim are desirable. International board certification of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) and/or of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) is required.

The initial appointment will be for six years. After a minimum of three years, it can be converted into a permanent position pending a positive evaluation of the candidate’s performance in research and teaching as well as his or her personal aptitude and if all legal conditions are met.

As communication with students, staff, horse owners, industry and stakeholder will require knowledge of spoken and written German, it is required for the successful candidate to demonstrate the sincere willingness to become proficient in German.
