The Department of Chemistry is an internationally recognized research institution with an interdisciplinary research environment in the fields of synthetic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, chemical biology, catalysis and supramolecular chemistry.

We are looking for you:

NMR Facility Manager (m/f/x)

in Munich

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Operate and scientifically manage our NMR facility (solid and liquid state Bruker NMR spectrometers – 400 MHz, 500 MHz, 600 MHz, 700 MHz and 800 MHz with cryogenic probes). The facility manager will be supported by two technicians for cryogen refills and setup of routine experiments.
  • Developing new high-field NMR applications for structural chemistry research, mechanistic studies that include dynamic and kinetic measurements.
  • Participate in national and international multidisciplinary research collaborations.
  • Advise students, peers and visiting scientists. Teaching of undergraduate- and graduate-level courses with a moderate teaching load. Presentation of results in project meetings, international conferences and in scientific journals.

Your qualifications:

  • PhD (or equivalent) in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, physics or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in the operation of Bruker NMR spectrometers, including pulse programming, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Desirable qualifications: multi-dimensional NMR experiments of biopolymers (proteins, nucleic acids); NMR data processing; fast-magic-angle-spinning techniques.
  • Postdoctoral research experience and an international profile, e. g. through extended research stays abroad, is an advantage.
  • Ability for and willingness to work in a multidisciplinary team.


Depending on the experience level of the successful candidate the position will initially be limited and after an evaluation period will be made permanent. Payment is according to E13 pay scale. If all formal requirements are met, the position can be changed to a civil-servant status (“Akademischer Rat, verbeamtet”).

Also possible in a part-time capacity.
