Our research group at the chair for Human-Environment Relations at the Department of Geography works on risk, adaptation and transformation in the context of environmental hazards, climate change, urbanization and other dimensions of global change. Our group develops, tests and imparts inter- and transdisciplinary methods for future development paths and risk trends assessment. Among these efforts, we develop geospatial analysis and urban growth models that include cellular automata, agent-based models, and machine learning and AI methods in rapidly developing urban settings. We need support to prepare the data for these models and would welcome contributions to their development. While pursuing a global perspective, our empirical research focuses on Germany, Africa and Asia.
We offer a multidisciplinary group that includes researchers focusing on analytics, simulation, policy, and decision-making. We work in a collaborative atmosphere where the contributions of student assistants are valued. We avoid micro-managing the research tasks, and the candidate should be able to self-manage to deliver high-quality outcomes.
