About us:

The Department of Geography of the LMU is a globally recognized institution with innovative approaches in sustainability science. There, the newly established chair for physical geography and nexus research assesses the complex interactions between water security, food production, energy security and nature. Our group develops knowledge and tools to understand, monitor, and simulate the behaviour, features and evolution of the nexus as a complex system. In this framework, we have designed an area devoted to energy security and sustainable energy.

We are looking for you:

Researcher and lecturer in the field of energy science (m/f/x)

in Munich

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Perform research on sustainable energy, energy production, energy use and other aspects of the energy system from a geographic point of view. Topics of interests are for example hydropower, biofuel production and agrivoltaics.
  • Perform nexus research by analysing the interlinkages between energy, water resources, agriculture and natural ecosystems, such as water requirements of green hydrogen production and fossil fuels, energy requirements of conveyance and application of irrigation water.
  • Perform research on the current and future effects of land use change, climate change and other anthropogenic disruptions and socio-economical trends on energy security and production, for example trade-offs of land use for biofuels and food production.
  • Third-party funding acquisition
  • Writing scientific publications
  • Teaching (five SWS).

Your qualifications:

  • Master degree in Geography, Geosciences, Energy Science, Energy Technics, Renewable Energy, Engineering in Electrotechnics, or similar
  • Willingness to learn and further develop the model LPJmL as well as analysing modelling outputs
  • A high level of competence in oral and written English
  • Post-doc experience, experience in interdisciplinary work and PhD degree are a plus
  • Structured and goal-oriented thinking
  • Creativity and openness to new approaches
  • Reliability and a high level of motivation
  • Willingness to travel for work (project meetings, workshops etc.)
  • Capacity for teamwork and excellent communication skills, including the willingness to build a productive scientific network.
