About us:

The Chair for Mathematical Foundations of Artificial Intelligence at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, one of Europe’s leading universities, is part of the HighTech Agenda of the Free State of Bavaria. Due to the size of our group, we maintain a broad and diverse research portfolio, offering an exciting and interdisciplinary working and research environment. Our current research focuses include (1) Reliable AI, e.g., expressivity, generalization ability, and explainability of (graph) neural networks, and (2) Sustainable AI, e.g., spiking neural networks as energy-efficient alternatives to classical neural networks. Additionally, we develop mathematics-based AI methods for inverse problems and PDEs, as well as AI-based learning of physical laws, with applications in medicine, robotics, and telecommunication.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Research in one of the group’s focus areas
  • Publication of research results at international conferences and in leading journals
  • Participation in academic self-governance of the group

Your qualifications:

You are fascinated by the mathematical foundations of artificial intelligence and hold an excellent university degree in mathematics, computer science, or a related field. You work in a results-oriented and self-structured manner and are distinguished by your ability to work independently. In addition, you possess strong teamwork and communication skills, excellent analytical abilities, solid programming knowledge, a high level of commitment, and very good command of English.
